Newlyweds John and Samantha Harris, who just suffered a miscarriage, seek to start their already crumbling marriage somewhere else outside of New York City. John, an alcoholic suffering from PTSD from an undisclosed event in his past struggles to cope, while the drastic age difference between the couple causes even more tension. When he is relocated by his Land Development firm to a small town deep within the Appalachian Mountains in order to oversea the development of a Casino, it seems like the perfect opportunity for the couple. Though warned that there may be some anger and resentment from the townsfolk, the Newlyweds proceed into the heart of Appalachia with optimism. It doesn't take long until things begin to feel sinister towards the couple, with numerous harrowing events taking place in and around their new home. When Samanthas journals are stolen in a break-in, the couples most personal secrets become widely know throughout the town, further humiliating the Harriss as well as causing them to begin seeking help from local Authorities, to no avail. After a horrendous home invasion leads to the rape of Samantha, it instantly becomes evident that not only are they not wanted, but they have found themselves wrapped up within a nightmarish tapestry of pure evil that lurks within the underbelly of small town America.
